The demand for housing in the Reykjanesbæ district exceeds supply and has done so for some years; the local authorities have an evolving master plan for the district which includes plans to develop a residential community to the north of the main highway.

Iceland Motopark will provide additional residential space to the south. The opportunity to create a merging of the landscape with these new residential communities is exciting and novel; the intention will be to create a feeling of countryside living on one side, with a mix of parkland, employment, education and entertainment to the north. At least three types of residential community are planned:

  • Conventional family housing, following the norms for the region
  • Modern architecturally sophisticated housing on larger plots with lower building footprint densities, picking up cues from traditional building materials and designed to blend into the landscape.
  • Modern, technologically advanced and sophisticated apartment Blocks catering for the younger professional demographic groups and those looking to be associated with the entertainment hub, these buildings will reflect the architectural style of the conference centre and hotel.
