Driving School
The Iceland MotorPark has been granted a licence to operate a government approved road safety driver training school from January 1st 2008.
Best practice policies have been investigated in partnership with the LIA and FIB to identify the facilities and these will operate within the constraints of the motorsport Paddock.
The key initiative which the Iceland MotoPark will offer for Iceland is to provide a driver training facility;
The MotoPark management will work closely with the LIA, the FIB, the Iceland Transport Ministry, road safety organisations and the FIA. The objective will be to integrate different road surfaces, structures and textures into the service road infrastructure around the tracks and on the paddock spaces so that training in controlled conditions can be offered.
Iceland has a large proportion of unmetalled roads, severely worn surfaces due to wear by studded winter tyres and, of course, poor weather driving conditions. Road safety training undertaken at the Iceland MotoPark will prepare drivers, whether tourists or Icelandic nationals, for the challenges of driving in Iceland.
The FIA will be invited to utilise this facility and to assist in defining its specifications, possibly as a blueprint for similar facilities elsewhere in the World.
